About me
So let me tell you a little more about me. I am a newly qualified Music Therapist, passionate about using music to connect, empower, and inspire. With a rich and varied musical background, my journey has taken me through performing, mentoring, and facilitating music for people of all ages and abilities. My main instruments include Drum Kit, Piano, Piano Accordion, Group Singing, Guitar, Ukulele and percussion. I also love the freedom of improvisation.
My Path to Music Therapy
I am taking a new journey to channel my musical skills toward helping others. After years of performing in bands and running a stretch tent hire marquee business with my husband to support our family for 15 years, I felt a deep calling to use my musical talents in a more meaningful and impactful way. Running the stretch tent company was about bringing people together—creating celebratory places and spaces where they could connect, share joy, and make lasting memories.
Studying for my Music Therapy MA at Bristol UWE from 2021-2025 has been an enriching experience, reinforcing my belief in music’s power to foster meaningful connections. Inspired by my great aunt’s experience with dementia, I am committed to a person-centred approach, building trust and providing support through music.
I have a deep passion for mental health work, particularly supporting individuals dealing with trauma and addiction. I believe music can be a powerful tool for processing emotions, fostering resilience, and providing a sense of connection. Additionally, I love working with children, helping them express themselves through music in a safe and creative environment. I also love all the musical work I have been involved with in Dementia care homes.
Experience in Music Therapy
During my training, I gained hands-on experience through diverse placements:
- Star College, Cheltenham – Working with PMLD students in one-on-one and group settings.
- Dementia Care, Chepstow – Leading group music sessions and one-to-one therapy.
- Stroke Aphasia Choirs, Bristol – Facilitating choirs at Bristol Community Hospital and in the local community.
- Changing Tunes Prison Choir, Eastwood Park Prison – Volunteering with the prison choir, an inspiring and rewarding experience.
- Wye Valley Music Memory Cafés – Supporting local communities who struggle with family members who are experiencing dementia through interactive group music sessions. This work is still current.
Additional Musical & Teaching Experience
- Music Mentor for Remix- Bristol youth music organisation – Led drumming workshops, taught drums in schools, and supported young mothers in writing music with their babies.
- Private & Group Teaching – Teaching GarageBand in youth clubs and offering instrumental instruction. I am still learning new technology and am looking forward to continue learning.
My Musical Journey
Music has always been at the heart of my life. I earned my BA Hons in Music Technology in 2001 and have played in numerous bands all through my life.
As a drummer, I performed with Mooz (www.mooz.uk) and toured with bands such as Morning Star, Patrick Duff. A highlight was being talent-spotted by Roni Size at Glastonbury, leading to the recording of our first EP.
From 2003-2010, I formed and Co-Operatively Managed the lively and theatrical band The Glitzybaghags, playing accordion and singing vocals. We performed at major festivals, including Glastonbury, The Green Gathering, The Secret Garden Party, and Shambala, bringing joy and energy to many audiences. It was a lot of fun.
Looking Ahead
I am eager to explore opportunities as a Music Therapist within the Forest of Dean and the surrounding areas. With a clean driving license, full HCPC and DBS registration I am ready to bring my skills and passion to new people and projects.
If you are interested in working together or would like references from my placements, please get in touch—I’d love to discuss how we can collaborate and I am keen to start work and bring music therapy to my local community!
