Empowering Connection, Expression, and Healing Through Music

Who Am I?

I’m Amy Hulme, a newly qualified HCPC-registered Music Therapist based in the Forest of Dean. With over 20 years of experience as a musician, I bring creativity, empathy, and expertise to my practice. My instruments include drums, piano, accordion, guitar, and voice—and I specialise in improvisation to help clients express themselves authentically.

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is a clinical intervention that uses music as a tool to support emotional, psychological, cognitive, and social well-being. We work with sound creation, rhythm, and melody to connect, heal, and grow. Whether through improvisation, songwriting, or active listening, music becomes a powerful tool for communication and self-expression.

Who Can Benefit?

Music therapy can help people of all ages and abilities facing challenges such as:

  • Learning differences (e.g., SEN education)
  • Emotional struggles (anxiety, depression, trauma)
  • Communication and social skills (autism, speech difficulties)
  • Cognitive and physical rehabilitation (stroke, dementia, injury)
  • Palliative care and end-of-life support

My Approach

I take a person-centred approach, tailoring sessions to meet each individual’s unique needs. My work focuses on building trust and connection through live musical interaction—whether one-on-one or in groups. Inspired by my own family’s experiences with dementia, I’m deeply committed to helping others navigate their challenges with compassion and care.

Experience That Matters

During my training, I’ve worked with diverse groups, including:

  • Children and adults with learning disabilities
  • Stroke survivors and aphasia choirs
  • Dementia care settings and memory cafés
  • Prison choirs and youth mentoring programmes
  • I am now starting part time work with Music Space.
